This week, the new Surge 2G meets 3G as the latest Surge Headphone technology is integrated into the Interval Headphone System for the 3rd generation iPod.
You may or may not know, that my path to becoming the Community Manager for H2O Audio started with being an H2O Audio customer. Being a huge music consumer and life-long swimmer, I diligently saved up my cash to purchase an Interval Headphone system. This was a couple generations previous; the sound was slightly tinny, the fit a little finicky, but I had an in-water soundtrack and I was happy as a clam (pun intended!) Soon, I wasn’t able to swim without music and wondered how I ever survived 10+ of pool time a week without it.
After reading the back of the case and finding that H2O Audio was in my hometown of San Diego, I sent over a resume and many turn of events later, landed my current position. Now, “product testing” is an official part of my job and after taking one of the first prototypes of the new Surge 2G headphones swimming, I harassed our engineer to find out how soon we could get the new technology on the Interval.
Finally, the day came and an Interval 3G integrated with a shiny new pair of Surge 2G’s and a Pro Fit Kit magically appeared on my desk. I loaded up my shuffle, played around with all the ear tips and finally took to the pool outfitted with mini-tree tips. It’s been over 3 years since I purchased that first Interval case and I’ve since told many people in the lane next to me about the joys of the little box attached to my goggles. But this new set-up took everything to a whole ‘nother level.
The seared shape of the new ear buds meant I could get them wedged into my ear such that the curve of cartilage put pressure on them to stay in place, and the improved bass and clarity of sound, I think rivals some higher end non-waterproof in-ear headphones. Through butterfly sets and hundreds of flip turns, the sound never wavered, the ear buds didn’t budge.
Being that I work here, you could say I’m bias, but I was a consumer first and take make product testing duties very seriously. And I can say with confidence that this new headphone technology, plus the selection of ear plugs offered in the Pro Fit Kit is reaching near perfection as far as swim soundtracks go.
If you find swimming boring, if you want to push yourself to workout harder, if there was ever a question wondering if The Interval Headphone System actually works, take it from me. It more than works, it literally rocks your world. Now I just need to get my gills functioning so I can listen to new albums while floating near the bottom of the pool….
